Rawnsley Park Station – Eco-Villas

Located beneath spectacular Rawnsley Bluff at the southern tip of Wilpena Pound the Eco-Villas offer amazing secluded luxury with private deck area and night sky viewing panel. Day One

Depart Adelaide for the Flinders Ranges and head north through the famous Clare Valley wine region. Drive on to Melrose for a relaxing country pub lunch or mountain biking. Continue your journey into the heart of the Flinders by driving to the Wilpena area for the night. Choose from accommodation at Rawnsley Park Station or Wilpena Pound.

Day Two

Start the day with a guided breakfast walk in the beautiful Flinders Ranges. Experience the timeless history of the Wilpena region with an Adnyamathanha indigenous cultural tour. Spend the afternoon discovering Wilpena Pound and surrounds. Then choose from the Sunset on the Chace or Champagne and Shadows tours to experience the magic hour in the Flinders Ranges.

Day Three

Take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound from airstrips at Wilpena or Rawnsley Park for a stunning start to the day. Then take a packed lunch and drive through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges and Aroona Valley, watching for rare rock wallabies. Enjoy afternoon tea in Blinman and visit its historic mine. Then drive via Parachilna Gorge to the Prairie Hotel, Parachilna, Australia’s most awarded Outback hotel and home to creative regional cuisine.

Day Four

After breakfast drive north to Copley and try the quandong pies at the Quandong Café. Be sure not miss the many artworks adorning the town’s fences. Now head into the heart of the northern Flinders on the road to the award winning Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. After dark join one of the astronomy tours and explore the universe under crystal clear Outback skies.

Day Five

Take Arkaroola’s renowned Ridgetop Tour and enjoy unforgettable, iconic Flinders Ranges landscapes. Return to Arkaroola for lunch before beginning the journey south through Blinman (via Wirrealpa) or Parachilna (via Copley).

Day Six

Continue your journey south through the Flinders to Hawker, home of the Wilpena Panorama, a 360 degree painted landscape featuring Wilpena Pound. Drive to Quorn via Yourambulla Caves and Kanyaka Station ruins. After lunch take a one or two hour camel trek with gourmet dinner option. Stay in Quorn and enjoy the sights of this historic Flinders Ranges town, or drive through Pichi Richi Pass to Port Augusta for the night.

Day Seven

Once in Port Augusta, take an eco-cruise in the narrow waters of Upper Spencer Gulf. Or head over to the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens – a 200 hectare showcase for South Australia’s arid zone plants, birds and small animals. While still in Port Augusta, tour the Wadlata Outback Centre and the Tunnel of Time to discover the origins of the Outback through Aboriginal stories and tales of pioneer explorers and settlers. Break for lunch at Wadlata before departing for Adelaide.

All major airlines fly to Adelaide daily. The Flinders Ranges are a five-hour drive north of Adelaide and can be explored by self-driving or tour. Iconic Barossa and Clare wine regions offer opportunities en-route for stopovers when travelling by road. All major car rental companies operate from Adelaide.


 

Sharp Airlines flies from Adelaide to Port Augusta twice a day on weekdays and once on Sundays. Charter flights such as Ross Air Charter or Air South can land at Hawker, Quorn, Wilpena Pound, Rawnsley Park Station, Balcanoona near Arkaroola and Leigh Creek.
