Day One
From Perth, take the South Western Highway towards Bridgetown, stopping in Pinjarra along the way for a morning tea break. Drive onto Bridgetown for tranquil views and a picturesque wooded backdrop set on the banks of the Blackwood River. Enjoy a glass or two of local wine with dinner before retiring for the night at a local guesthouse.
Day Two
Drive along the tree lined roads to Pemberton and visit the Gloucester Tree lookout. Climb this 60 metre karri tree for an amazing view of the forest canopy. Visit a cottage-style restaurant for a sumptuous gourmet meal before heading back outdoors to indulge in some stargazing.
Day Three
Drive slowly to Walpole, keeping an eye out for grazing kangaroos. After a stroll through Walpole's town centre, continue to Hilltop Road, stopping at the Giant Tingle Tree and circular pools. Continue to Denmark for the night, and don't miss the William Bay National Park and Greens Pool, making the perfect backdrop for a picnic lunch.
Day Four
Enjoy lunch at a local Denmark restaurant or picnic on the tranquil riverbank. Visit Albany's old whaling station now transformed into a fascinating museum. From June – October, continue your whale-watching experience from the lookout platforms along the coast. Dine out before spending the night at a boutique hotel or Bed & Breakfast.
Day Five
Visit some of the region's wineries and art galleries, followed by a lunchtime feast before starting your journey back to Perth. There's plenty to see and do on your way back, so save some time to visit the Porongurup wineries and the Kodja Place Interpretive Centre which features fascinating displays of the area's Aboriginal and pioneering heritage.
